Objectives​

  • Install build-essential
  • Compile from sources
  • Install the compiled software

Exercise 1: Prerequisites​

# Install tools
sudo apt install build-essential

# Verify
gcc --version
make --version

Exercise 2: Compilation​

# Download sources
wget http://example.com/software-1.0.tar.gz
tar -xzf software-1.0.tar.gz
cd software-1.0

# Configure
./configure --prefix=/usr/local

# Compile
make

# Install
sudo make install
