Why use Spring Boot?

Spring Boot allows you to create Java applications with minimal configuration, providing ready-to-use features like auto-configuration and bundled dependencies (starters) that facilitate the setup of complex projects.

1. Minimal Configuration

Traditionally, Spring applications require a lot of XML or Java configurations, which can be tedious and error-prone. Spring Boot reduces these configurations by using the principle of convention over configuration. This means that Spring Boot applies smart default settings, allowing you to get started quickly without having to specify every configuration detail.

2. Auto-configuration

Spring Boot can automatically configure a large part of the application based on the dependencies you have added to your project. For example, if you include a dependency for a relational database, Spring Boot will automatically configure a datasource, a database connection, and beans to work with that database. This eliminates the need for manual configurations for these aspects.

3. Bundled Dependencies (Starters)

Spring Boot offers "starters," which are essentially predefined sets of dependencies. For example, if you want to create a web application, you can simply add the spring-boot-starter-web dependency, which includes all the necessary libraries to create a web application, such as Spring MVC, Jackson (for JSON support), and Tomcat (as an embedded server). These starters simplify dependency management by saving you from having to select each dependency individually.

4. Embedded Web Server

Spring Boot includes an embedded web server (like Tomcat, Jetty, or Undertow), which allows you to launch a Java web application with a simple command. This facilitates the development, testing, and deployment of the application, as you do not need to configure an external server separately.

5. Production Ready Features

Spring Boot provides production-ready features such as monitoring tools, performance management, and metrics. Thanks to the actuator, you can access endpoints that provide information on the application's state, logs, performance metrics, etc., which is essential for production management.

6. Speed of Development

Thanks to all these features, Spring Boot allows for faster application development. You can start a new project in minutes, and the learning curve is also reduced thanks to the simplicity of using starters and auto-configuration.

7. Community and Ecosystem

Spring Boot is part of the Spring ecosystem, which is one of the most robust and widely used in the Java world. This means you have access to a vast community, abundant documentation, and numerous extensions and integrations with other technologies and frameworks.

Conclusion

In summary, Spring Boot is used because it simplifies Java application development by reducing configuration complexity and providing powerful tools to speed up the development process while offering flexibility for complex projects.
